Crack! As the bat swings over home plate, the ball goes flying across the open field to the cheers of parents behind. The batter only listens for one pair of cheers as she rounds the bases: her parents. As the game ends, the players shake hands and leave the field to run to their moms and dads for the good-job-snacks they are guaranteed to have. The slugger from earlier moseys over to her parents trying to suppress the smile she has got swiped across her face from her first homerun but it doesn't work. Her dad runs up to her and picks her up to swing her around in circles above his head while talking so quickly that everything just manages to come out as a barely recognizable form of English. Once safely back on the ground, her mother gives her a big, wet kiss on the cheek and tells her how proud she is of her "little slugger". Never was that little girl so happy to hear her parents say, "I'm so proud of you hunny!" From that day on, that is all she wanted to do: make her parents proud of her. Now, that little girl has grown up and moved off to college to pursue that dream to the end of its reaches. That little girl is me.
All of my ambitions and dreams stem from my parents and their way of life. Without them, I would have never been as determined, nay, stubborn, as I am now. I have learned from my parents never to quit no matter how hard it is and not to worry about the little things in life, otherwise they will overwhelm you. My parents have instilled in me this idea which I now hold most dear to my heart: work hard in all I do as long as I am happy and always to remember where my home plate is.
