To understand a certain situation is merely the point of philosophy. Studying philosophy accounts for five chief aims that through this, Philosophy exercise its purpose. Maybe so that we could make better decisions, like rejecting materialism as it seems you have is probably the best thing you could ever do for yourself in modern day society, which you could only do through philosophical means. We philosophize because we are called by our rational nature explain things around us. We philosophize because we would like to gain mastery of our nature and the world. Every person has so much ability mentally, but they decide against philosophy and opt to watch TV and go to malls instead only thing I can think of right now is probably so that we can test our beliefs. In addition, since humans are born with the intuitive nature keep on asking question they try to comprehend or know everything. Philosophy adds a majestic effect on the things we are trying to say. It really helps to be a thinker, everyone's got an angle even you and you better believe in yourself because chances are no one else will. You know most people are trained to not question things; it's a good thing to question everything in one's life it increases one's curiosity and that gets people into trouble. Well trouble for some, good for your right. Man has always speculated on existence in some form or another. Philosophy as an organized and taught discipline began with the ancient Greeks. Prior to then religion was about all that came close to it. Even the ancient Greeks linked their philosophy to religion. Man has always wanted answers to the question why. In the beginning they sought theological explanations of everything but quickly found them in a quagmire that seemed to have no end. They quickly turned to other approaches and gave birth to the different areas of philosophical study. Philosophy is the search for meaning and this is how philosophers define Philosophy. Scholars also say that all man philosophizes. We all philosophized, yet we all thought differently. For example, Love could mean different for each of us. It could mean family, soul mate, even God. This is because we all have our distinct insights. Someone who is insensitive and dense to his emotions doesn't know how to philosophize, because it does something special when you philosophize.
