Women who are Victims of Sexual Assault/ Rape
Over 90,000 females report being sexually assaulted or raped each year. Also adding the cases not reported will add to the already large number of females raped a year. It is getting out of control. You cannot even go out to enjoy yourself without being worried about what could happen. When you break it down it averages about 1 in every 6 women are sexually assaulted or raped. The statistics make you think if you should even risk going out, and putting yourself in those compromising situations.
In most cases when a woman is raped she blames herself. Rape is a very emotional and traumatic experience. Some women barely make it out alive after being raped; they have to battle both the physical and emotional pain of such a horrific experience. Several females never overcome what has happened. The longer they hold or push back their feelings the harder it will be to get help. Majority of rapes are committed by an individual you are acquainted with, which makes it a lot harder to trust the people around you. How do you know if you can trust your friends that are the opposite sex?
After a woman is raped she becomes embarrassed. She starts questioning herself, whether or not she completely understands what a rapist is and if she really was raped. Also the effect other will have on her personal experience. Some people will take the side of the other individual saying she is to blame. All the talk about how she dresses, the way she portrays herself, all the people she has supposedly slept with, and the typical comment she was asking for it. It is crazy how a women fears reporting being raped because not only are they trying to deal with what has already happened, she now has to face the world and try not to be affected by everyone's opinions.
There are so many factors that play a role in whether or not a woman will report the incident. In a social standing you have to take in account of the lack of support, being afraid that no one is going to believe her, or the fact that there may not be enough evidence to prove that it really happened.
