World’s Oldest Fossils Discovered Due to Climate Change

Brian Clark Howard, National Geographic, September 1, 2016

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2016/09/worlds-oldest-fossils-stromatolites-discovered-climate-change/

The oldest fossil fuels ever discover were found in Greenland last week due to melting ice. The fossil fuel is called stromatolites this fuel bounds together sediments into distinctive layers. This find not only sets back how long the world has been around but it also proves that this world can provide fossil fuels and energy even with the ice melting in this warming world today.

The author of this article is trying to inform us on the different types of fossil fuels that could become available in a changing climate. This article explains the different types of tests and experiments they are doing right now to find out about the type of fossil fuel and how much is gonna be revealed when the ice melts in Greenland. "This week’s discovery is another reminder of the rich trove of ancient secrets that are likely to become exposed as glaciers, permafrost, and sea ice melt in a warming world." This statement by Howard is biased in my opinion because he is saying that global warming might not be the worst thing if it releases all of the fossil fuels hidden underneath the ice.

This article connects to what we have learned in the course already because it is talking about different types of fossil fuels and climate change due to global warming, and we have talked about both of those topics in class so far this semester.

My reaction to this article is kinda shocking. Before the finding of this fossil fuel there was no evidence of anything beneficial coming out of global warming and a warming world. After reading this I'm glad to learn that even after the ice melts there will still be ways to provide energy through fossil fuels.
