Introduction
An Oracle Applications Implementation requires careful planning and execution of numerous tasks. An Oracle
Implementation typically represents a significant investment in any organization's Information Technology (IT)
budget. Implementations demand the commitment of a great deal of people and resources, all of which are
crucial factors in the project's success. However, the Consulting Project Manager (CPM) has a key role in the
project because he or she is responsible for coordinating the schedules and tasks of the entire team. Considering
that the team is usually composed of people with different backgrounds and from different companies, this
role's level of difficulty should not be underestimated. Consequently, the Consulting Project Manager role
cannot be assigned to someone who does not have the appropriate skills and knowledge required to effectively
manage the project.
The objective of this white paper is to provide Project Managers with some guidance, and to offer an outline of
considerations to be given before starting any project. Each project has its own characteristics, so certain points
may not apply for some projects. However, the topics addressed in this white paper apply to a wide range of
projects overallÑ*from small to big companies, and from service to manufacturing companies. Any person who
may be assigned as a CPM in an Oracle Applications Implementation should evaluate the topics included in this
white paper.
The primary audience for this white paper is IT Convergence Project Managers. This document is also a
valuable tool for companies in the initial phase of an Oracle project to help prepare for a knowledgeable and
successful implementation.

The Client Project Manager obtains physical resources such as accommodation space, office equipment,
computer equipment, and materials, and also arranges for Client staff to make time available for the project.
The Client Project Manager introduces the consulting staff to other Client staff.
Consulting Project Manager
The Consulting Project Manager (CPM) is a consulting role critical to the success of the project. The CPM is
ultimately held accountable for the success or failure of the project. This person must understand the project
business objectives of both the Client and the consulting firm, and have a clear vision of how to achieve those
objectives. The CPM agrees on the scope of the project with the Client and resolves any conflicts about the
objectives of the various stakeholders. The CPM is responsible for planning the project and monitoring and
reporting the project's progress against the plan. Also, the CPM must ensure that the Implementation is being
performed according to the methodology established for the project.
