Back to Black Music Review

Back to Black happens to be the second album by the British boozer, Amy Winehouse. It is one of those albums for people who are fond of banging beat about a lovesick bad girl. Back to Black represents Winehouse as a blunt person, who is not afraid to disclose her personal mishaps like struggle with alcohol or a breakup from which it has been hard to recover. The whole album brings back the late sixties soul sound ambience. It also has some marvelous singles, such as, Rehab, You Know I'm No Good, and Tears Dry on Their Own. These are the songs which show a woman perfectly aware of her flaws but refuse to change. The lyrics are deceptively obscene at times, but that strike against her isn't enough to outweigh the fact that this is a phenomenal album of classic soul music. The funky sounds are addictive, but even more addictive are this girl's strong, big voice and her ability to change her style of music in each song and still belt them out.

Personally, I think Back to Black is a total hit. My favorite song from this album is Rehab. When I first heard it on MTV, I knew I had to get her CD. The song really moved me. It is nearly as perfect as a pop recording can get. I even gave this song a 5-star on my ipod. She drinks, she cheats, she falls for the wrong guys, she cries, she refuses rehab and she simply says 'I said no, no, no' as heard on the refrain. Frankly, it is beyond me how the mishmash of beehive hairstyle, multiple tattoos and smoky vocals can make such a great song with catchy tunes. Rehab starts with a strong introduction straight telling about Amy not-wanting to go to the rehabilitation center. Winehouse totally wins the listeners with her personal drama in this mind-blowing song featuring Amy's throaty vocals and an arrangement that heels back memories of pre-Beatles 60's pop and R&B.
