The purpose and function of professionals interviewing clients in health and human services

The purpose of professionals interviewing clients in health and human services is to provide a means to establish a pre-determined purpose aside social interaction, informal or unplanned conversations. This involves series of questions that are asked and answered.  The interview must take a two part in which the interviewer has a interviewee. According to chapter 1 of Interviewing Principles and Practices, it states that an interview may involve more than two people but never more than two parties.

The type of information does the human service professional hope to gain when they interview clients.

When a human service provider is meeting with their client for the first time they should hope to gain an established goal. Pre determine what is needed in moving forward in conversation with the client. This should include a goal, expectations, and aspirations. Building a rapport with a client is one of the most important factors. According the the ebook material rapport is a process of establishing and sustaining a relationship between interviewer and interviewee by creating feelings of goodwill and trust.

When a human service professional is preparing interview to interview a client, steps that should be considered are as followed.

The first step should be utilizing knowledge to develop a single skill. It is important to develop a colloaborative sort of enviornment with ones client. Each skill that is applyied during an interview must be done in a smooth flowing and natural perfromance. They are not skills that are similar to playing a sport or putting together a puzzle with pieces. Keeping in mind that starting before starting the interview one must keep focus on proccess that leads to successful engagement. It is important to keep in mind that change is crucial. If one possess the skills to encourage a client to feel comfortable they will openly begin the conversation. Preparing for an interview can be complex at times when each client and there situations are different. There are however the skill that are used that are effective. Using open and closed in questions. These questions can often lead to or provide direction for the interview. Being empathic and utilizing your active listening skills are important during an interview as well. Each client is different and so will be the interview.
