Our distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning! I am very delighted to be with you here. On behalf of the Chinese government, and also in my own name, I would like to extend my warm welcome to the distinguished guests from around the world.

With the surging economic globalization, China is quickly becoming a new driving force for the world’s economy and the global boom will also bring more important opportunities to China. Enhanced mutually-beneficial economic cooperation and rising interdependence between China and the European countries will usher in an even more promising future for the global economy.

Since the proclamation of New China in 1949, and particularly since the implementation of reform and opening-up policy pioneered by Mr. Deng Xiaoping in 1978, China has witnessed profound changes never seen in the country before, with the overall national strength tremendously increased and the texture of life steadily improved. What’s more, China also spared no efforts in promoting foreign trade and attracting foreign investments. The reform and opening-up policy has not only accelerated the sustained and sound development of China’s national economy, but also given impetus to the restructure of its economic system. It has not only laid a solid foundation for the country’s further development, but also made significant contribution to the economic boom of the whole world.

Over the past few years, China has maintained good momentum in its foreign investment growth, and the large influx of foreign capital has played an important role in stimulating domestic investment and expanding its opening-up to the outside world. China’s goal for the first 20 years of this century is to embrace the opportunities and build a comfortably-off society, thus make China a nation with more developed economy, improved democracy, advanced science and education, and more prosperous culture. To realize this goal, we will take initiative to meet the challenges and push forward an all-dimensional, multi-tiered and wide-ranging opening-up to accelerate China’s modernization process.
