Executive summary

Mr Suresh Gunaweera is a senior supervisor in charge of the production output of machine number 1. He is an efficient and hardworking supervisor.in the Mr Suresh’s production line estimated production output is 150 unit per day utilizing 15 employees for that and tolerance for the rejection less than 2% from the production. Meanwhile actual production output human utilization and extent to which tolerance are totally differ from the estimated standards.

Mr Suresh is a much disciplined person and working according to the standards and rules of the company. He also being and employee more than 10 years in the Regions Manufacturing Company in a computer spare parts industry. But suddenly he face for the inefficient in his production line because of poor raw material and engineers staff inefficient. He is forced by the management of the company to increase the production output and quality of the output. Therefore he was following rather strict way to control his subordinates. As a results of his changes subordinates were really disappointed.

Meanwhile Nimal and Kamal attend to the union meeting which summoned by the HR manager. The case begun because of  Nimal sleeping during the working time and Suresh supervising time. Nimal was requested to start work immediately, But Nimal refused to follow instruction of supervisor. There has been taken place disputes with the Nimal and Suresh. Finally the inquiry board decided to suspend Suresh for a week.

After the punishment period usually Suresh come to work. But he is unable to concentrate on work previously done. So he arrived at a decision to leave the company which he worked for 10 years and leave the country also.

In here some cases surface regarding company policies and procedures and interfere some human behavior to increase the cases bottom to top. In this case study concentrate what issues are surfaced due to Human behavior and what possible actions should be taken place as a Human resource Manager of the Regions Manufacturing Ltd.  

Problem Statements

If you are the HR Manager of this company enumerate the action steps you will take relating to the following:

  1. How would you assists Suresh to improve the performance of his team and thereby ensure performance targets of machine number 1 are achieved?

  1. What are the situation in which counseling techniques can be applied effectively?

  1. How would you deal with the incident between Nimal and Suresh?
  1. How would you address the staffing issues for machine number 1?

Question number 01

Mr Suresh is the production supervisor and in charge of production machine number 1. He is a very enthusiastic, self-motivated and target oriented person. That is why he worry about production is under performing and output isn’t reached to the estimated quantity and he is being stress of management decisions. Because of overstress everything go away and can’t be controlled by Mr Suresh. Therefore as a HR manager of the company should make aware of the issues sources and remedies for the cases arise in recently.

  1. To build good relationship with subordinates.

As a team leader of the production machine number 1 should have a good relationship with his subordinates to get the maximum output and contribution of them. People always prefer to treat them well under any situation. In here if the production output is low and high rejection rate continue Suresh bound to solve this inefficient work behavior using build better relationship with his subordinate. Meeting them personally and assigning duties and responsibilities deploy well trained employee at the critical production areas. As well as advice to Mr Suresh to observe every subordinates well in the production floor. After that deploy estimated employees who are performing well and others transfer to another line or for the training needs. Keeping right number of employees then make aware and assign task individually to accomplish the set target for the machine number 1. People always prefer to treat them well. So Mr Suresh has to move away from log entries and memos towards to his subordinates to motivate them inspire them and having a discussion with company management to set incentive scheme. Always mind of his subordinates should be with the better perspective regarding their leader’s current leading methods.

  1. To control unnecessary stress regarding working schedules.

Mr Suresh is the machine number 1 production in charge. So Management has sought everything from him regarding production output. Mr Suresh get to know handle this situation with his job duties and with his subordinates without any defects. He is under stress because of undue influence form the management for co-operation of them. Handling job duties and handling people and accomplish set target are very critical in a normal condition. But control the reputed production standards on time because that is the main activity of particular company to survive in the industry. Job duties always under stress, so Stress is not only applicable to Mr suresh, but also his subordinates.so firstly Mr suresh  should manage his stress and then help to his subordinates to manage their stress also. Then he will become a good leader to his crew.
