Ethics Awareness Inventory

Ethics are viewed in different perspectives. There are few that associate ethics with their feelings, religious beliefs, or a requirement of law. In fact, ethics are the right and wrong standards that people feel they should do such; being fair or keeping up with obligations. It also knows that things like theft, murder, and slander are wrong and that people should live by honesty, compassion, and loyalty.

Importance of Personal Ethics

Every individual, whether conscious of it or not, has a code of ethics. The list of feelings and beliefs are things that one is not willing to compromise on. An individual's code of ethics is an important development of life. A code of ethics can help an individual with life changing decisions without causing too much stress and anxiety, and can also help and individual reach life goals.

Personal and professional ethics in psychology is a requirement in order to maintain their license. The professional psychologists' code of ethics was put into place to protect the client and to treat them with respectful behavior, but it is also for the protection of the public from the abuse, whether it be physical, emotional, or financial (Kafka, 2008).

The code of ethics and conduct, have boundaries in place to prevent inappropriate relationships between client and psychologists. With a professional psychologist license, there is an overwhelming responsibility to protect a client's well-being.

Values are what an individual learns throughout childhood, moral are instinctive, and ethics are the way an individual behaves. Therefore an individual's morals, values, and ethics are all tied together (Benefial, 2002).

Ethics and Personal Growth, Health, & Development

Personal growth, also called personal development, describes the way an individual feels about self and life skills that they have accomplished in order to have a healthy self esteem. Personal growth or self esteem is developed over time with life situations including family, job, spiritual, friends, and problem solving strategies in each situation.

Personal growth and development can be recognized when one becomes responsible and accountable for their own thoughts and actions (Gruber, 2010). Psychical and mental health plays a major role in personal development. The psychical aspect includes hygiene, diet, exercise, and grooming all attribute to a healthy good life. Personal growth and development will allow an individual to live life to the fullest, and still continue to grow.

Advantages of Psychology Degree

The advantages of a psychology degree would depend on the level of education. Psychology degrees are the popular study for new students. Although psychology degrees open up many career paths for an individual, it is not for everyone. One thing that people may find an advantage or even a disadvantage would be the psychology degree allows one to know learn more about self.
