First video - the world is flat
The world is flat by Thomas L Friedman begins to explain globalization. The three phases of globalization are globalization 1.0, globalization 2.0, and globalization 3.0. Globalization 1.0 was explained as using India for an example. He states the country is famous for spices and various goods. The only problem was the way transporting the products. The normal route was dangerous and walk in a long way. The European countries began the process of globalization called quote the new world. The discovery of transporting by sea was faster and less dangerous to transport goods. Globalization 2.0 involved more of the companies rather than the countries. With the market expanding the companies look for a way to reduce costs. The way of producing the higher cost was with a transportation and telecommunications. As these areas reduce companies can focus better on productivity. Globalization 3.0 was the stage when individuals and groups were more prevalent. The process of globalization was faster pace for the change to take effect.
Within the globalization process outsourcing and off shoring took effect. Outsourcing involves a job or task that is performed by another individual to reduce the spending cost. Off shoring you have the same task performed by the company just in a different country. Through globalization he begins to explain economy, cultural, and technological changes taking place. The reason why he believes the world is flat is because now everybody has an equal opportunity to the global market. As he states the world is flat still many argue that the world is round.
Watching this video I was able to understand globalization on a wider scale suggested my textbook. He spends time making sure everybody is able to understand his concepts and visualizations with examples in created in one's mind. Thomas L. Friedman concept of the world is flat was a little much at first but when he begins to explain it all makes sense. Globalization is a way of expanding our companies with individual having all the same opportunities. In the past globalization has been seen as a strange but new method. Within the growing economy it's a way of making the field equal for everybody.
