The Foundations of Christianity
The Impact had on Western Civilizations.
There are many points in the beginning of Western Civilizations where you can see that religion has played a crucial role in the development of customs and traditions. These religions have also at times led to certain pivotal events either taking place or being averted through mystic visions that foretold the future. When studying these religions from the beginning of recorded history to current times you can and will see many key doctrinal points that have continued through and have been borrowed from the preceeding religions of the areas. These have all helped shape religion into what we see today. However, the one religion that has impacted the development of Western Civilizations the most is without a doubt Christianity.
Christianity is by no means the oldest religion in history. It does however, contain many aspects of the preceeding religions that were common place in the areas where it was founded. While the exact date of the founding of the Christian religion is not known there are approximate dates of the key events that most scholars can agree upon. The foundations of Christianity according to many current practitioners would be with the birth of Christ. However this is far from the truth. Christ did not found Christianity and indeed had no desire to form a new religion at all. According to many passages contained within the "Gospel of Thomas", we find that indeed that was not the case.
