Fundamentalism and Christianity
"What is considered Ð''right' in a religion? Can a religion change with the times? Should Christians be allowed to wear revealing clothes, or is that a form of disobedience and disrespect?" These are all questions that one might wonder when researching modern day fundamentalists and their ties to religion. There can be two different views on any religion and its followers, that is the traditional followers who resent modernity and then there are the new followers who believe in the teachings yet conform to modern ways of life and appearance. When it comes to fundamentalism and Christianity, there are definitely two different groups of Christians. There are the old fashioned followers who do not dress fashionably, or listen to rock and roll music, and where the women are not allowed to wear pants out of respect of the traditional ways. Then there are the modern followers who dress provocatively, listen to rap and rock music, and watch disrespectful television shows, yet still attend church and believe the word of God. Even though there are both sides to this religion, are they both equally Christian or is one more Christian than the other? Why should one form feel superior to the other if they both believe the same thing? This question can not have an absolute answer but it can most definitely be explained by the views of a fundamentalist Christian.
First off, what is important to know about Christianity before there is an elaboration of its followers, fundamentalist or not? Christianity is a monotheistic religion, it believes in one God almighty, creator of both Heaven and Earth. Christians believe in Jesus, once a Jew who lived centuries ago. They believe that Jesus was sent to earth to be a guiding way of life, God but in human form. Christians base their beliefs on the teachings of the Bible, a sacred text that tells a good Christian how to live life in Jesus' footsteps. Repentance is used when Christians recognize that they are sinning and stop their sins and turn to God for guidance, through worship and prayer. Another important point in the Christian religion is their goals as a whole. A goal of all Christians is to have a relationship with God and with one's neighbors.
