How to Prepare a Healthy Breakfast
It has been said a numerous amount of times that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After a long period of time when you are sleeping (which is on average a good 10 to 12 hours) your body starts to slow down. When you wake up in the morning your body is still in the state of “fasting.” Breakfast is the meal that breaks the overnight fast, hence the name “breakfast.” Eating a well-balanced meal in the morning ends that period of time where your body has conserved the calories, and allows your metabolism to rev back up to prepare you for your day.
There are many benefits of eating breakfast. For one it starts your day off right by refueling your body with vitamin and mineral rich foods that your body needs. It also allows you to control your weight. Studies show that it is easier for those who eat breakfast to maintain a healthy weight compared to those who do not. Eating a healthy breakfast will also have long lasting effects like reducing the risk of heart disease or high cholesterol. It is proven that people who eat a good meal in the morning have better concentration and productivity throughout their day, opposed to those who do not eat breakfast.
A healthy breakfast should consist of a variety of foods such as whole grains, low fat protein, dairy products, and fruits or vegetables. All of these foods will provide complex carbs, proteins, and a small amount of fat that your body will need to help delay hunger for long periods of time. Imagine you are a car. After a long night of sleeping, your fuel tank is empty. Breakfast is the fuel that gets you going so you can hit the road.
You hear it all the time by mothers saying that it is important to eat your breakfast so you can have energy for the day. Well as much as we hate to admit it, Momma is right. Breakfast is a great determining factor of you having a good or bad day. When most people think of eating a healthy breakfast their minds go straight to the fiber cereals and smoothies consisting of mystery ingredients. A good breakfast does not always mean the foods that you have to pinch your nose while you hurry and swallow. Find the foods that you will enjoy and concoct a meal that will benefit your taste buds and your body. There are a variety of things that are good for you and have a very decent taste. For example eggs are extremely good for you and it is a taste that most people like. With eggs you are bound to find something you will enjoy. An omelet is a great item to make because you can throw just about anything you would want in it. They can give you your source of protein, dairy, and vegetables all in one. Then all you need to add is maybe a slice of whole-wheat toast and a cup of fruit and you are well on your way to a fantastic day.
Making an omelet is quite simple. You don’t need a lot of time, which these days most people do not have much of anymore. You should start off by grabbing all the ingredients you would want and chop them up into bite size pieces so all you have to do is throw them in when it is time. I am going to choose sausage for my source of protein; mushrooms, tomatoes, and green peppers for my veggies; and grated cheddar and Swiss cheese
