I. MISSION.
my mission is to enter the fashion industry.
II. GOAL.
I want a job as a Regional Visual Director and support the sale of merchandise through creative merchandise presentations, seasonal fashion trend statements, three-dimensional visual presentations
III. OBJECTIVES.
"to get a visual display job" within visual merchandising.
IV. ANALYSIS.
Industries in which I might consider taking a visual merchandising job would be in all the sectors of the industry for example I would like to work for a department store such as Bloomingdale's Nordstrom or Barneys and work with women's wear, men's wear, children's wear, accessories, and/or home products.
a. EXTERNAL FACTORS impacting the industry:
Ð'* SEASONAL TRENDS The Company experiences some seasonal trends in the sale of its products. For example, sales to the European region are often stronger than the Asian region. Social and cultural elements are strong contributing factors.
Ð'* COMPETITION The jeans industry is highly competitive. The intense competition inherent in the industry could result in the loss of customers or pricing pressures.
Ð'* OUTSOURCING: the practice of subcontracting manufacturing work to outside and especially foreign or nonunion companies
Ð'* The current economic downturn has led to the overall doom in several industries, including fashion and apparel. Overall statistics have all shown that Americans are spending less on fashion. Moreover, the spending pattern and demographic
classification of the market have all altered.
b. INTERNAL FACTORS impacting the industry.
Ð'* TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES AND PRODUCT TRANSITIONS
For example the jeans industry is characterised by continuing improvements in fashion and design which result in frequent introduction of new products, short product life cycles and continual improvement in product price/design characteristics
Ð'* INVENTORY MANAGEMENT/SUPPLIES/RAW MATERIALS The Company's ability to manage its inventory has been enhanced by favourable supply conditions in the industry.
c. COMPETITION within the industry.
Competition is a major factor in the fashion industry. Now there is more competition then ever, from specialiteis stores to department stores that has everything Look at WalMart and Tiffany. WalMart's strengths: Supply chain management and low prices on high volume products. WalMart appeals to mostly middle and lower economic clientele Walmart's strength is that it has everything not only does it have clothing but it's a low cost store that everyone can afford, it also great for getting everything you need done, from food shopping to cosmetics to home to clothing and even to shoes. It is probable some of the people who might shop regularly at a fine store like Tiffany would not regularly venture into a WalMart, and vise versa. What are Tiffany's strengths? Upscale fine jewelry at high prices, individualized service and appeal to the highest economic groups. What would happen to WalMart if they tried to appeal to Tiffany's customers? And, what would happen to Tiffany if they attempted to appeal to WalMart's customers? In both cases, they would likely lose focus, change the business model to the point where they could well lose their major customer base and suffer in the process. Each company focuses its efforts to maximize results in its own core business, and does not get distracted into areas where it may have limited appeal and expertise. Competition is a major factor in the fashion industry. Now there is more competition then ever, from specialiteis stores to department stores that has everything such as walmart.
d. CURRENT AND FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES in the industry.
1. Merging with companies. An example is of Bank America and Fleet, K-mart and Sears and AOL and MGM (metro Golden Myer). Such things might create mergers with fashion designers and stores to become more powerful.
2. Different types of jobs may be created with new technology being made everyday in the fashion industry. Also with technology im can be in many places at onece. Now we have video phoning and cell phones and everything, so you can have a meeting in the U.S> but actually be in Japan.
e. List threats that might impact the industry in negative ways.
