I am a senior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and as graduation is quickly approaching I'm finding myself now more than ever asking, as I'm sure most seniors do, "What do I want to do with my degree?" As an Anthropology major, I have always been fascinated in learning about people and exploring different cultures and customs, as well as my own in the African American community. I am also a strong believer in community service and giving back to ones community, and have volunteered my time to many worthy causes. On my hunt for a possible career path, it has become very important to me that I try to incorporate as many of my interests in my job choice as possible. Over the years I have come to really value and appreciate museums, not only for their entertainment value but also as an institution for learning, research, and community outreach. That is why I am interested in learning more about how museums are run, the work that goes into putting exhibits together, and the work that museums do in the community. I believe that a career in the museum may be something that could work for me in the future, and I figure the best way to learn would be from those people who are already experts in their field.

I am open to fill any position/ responsibilities that an internship requires of me. However I do have some experience in event planning, customer service, and education with children K-5 via the Docent program at the Waikiki Aquarium and volunteering at the Long Beach Aquarium. I also have a life-long background in art and took advanced placement art classes during high school and various art classes in college. Another area that I am passionate about and have experience with is conservation and wildlife. I considered studying abroad with UH for field studies this summer in Kenya doing community wildlife management studies. It is important for people to know how things are connected with the environment and how we have a major influence with those connections. Some of my career goals are to work in an environment that would allow me to learn more about African American history/culture and allow me to share those interests with others. Obtaining my teaching certification in social studies and working with children is also another possible career option along with museum studies. I believe that an internship at the Smithsonian would be a valuable experience for me as it would expose me to a realm where exploring and nurturing
