The poem the Iliad written by the Greek poet Homer is based on the Trojan war.
2. This article justifies the Trojan horse as a metaphor because it mentions in Homers poem the Iliad the Greeks breach the city walls by hiding inside the horse which they present as a gift to the Trojans. It justifies that the Trojan horse could have been a metaphor for Poseidon a god associated with horses who was both god of sea and earthquakes. They also suggest that Homer knew that the city he described was destroyed by an earthquake, so he concocted the Trojan horse.
3. The sixth and seventh layers are believed ,by archaeologists, to be the best candidates for the Trojan war. Although the sixth layer looks like the description of Homers troy, although it was not destroyed by an earthquake, but the seventh layer was. It is believed that Homer may have taken the description of of Troy 6 and the destruction of Troy 7 using his poetic license to blur the two into one ten year old long war.
4. If Troy was located at the Hisarlik site it could have been a great prize for power hungry kings making it very important during the time of the Mycenaeans. Perched at the entrance of the Black sea, the city would have been at international crossroads. The Greek Mycenaean empire would have lain to the west, where Hittite empire would have been to the east. As for the great wealth of Troy it also may have acquired that by taxing seafarers traveling into the black sea. It is said to be believed that, the Mycenaeans of Greece actually allied themselves with with the Trojans against the Hittites.It would have been a great win for the Mycenaeans to capture Troy because they would have economic gain, greed, glory, territory, and the control of trade.
5. Archaeologist discovered that there was a powerful city in Asia Minor where Troy would have been, Heinrich Schliemann excavated the site in 1870. This site contains nine cities built on top of each other and both the 6th and 7th layers are believed to have been there at the time of Troy. Most scholars agree that Troy itself was a real city, that the Trojan war indeed happened.Schliemann blasted down to the second city where he found jewels that he once believed to have belonged to Helen which would have been thousands of years older then the time described in the Iliad which contradicts if Homers poem of the Trojan war was true.It could also easily
