This article talked about how Led Zeppelin reunited to put on a show in London. This show was important because they had lost a member who had passed away and his son was filling in and also because it was their first full concert since 1980. The article went into details about different songs and the influence that blues had on some of them. It discussed how the band, although well rehearsed, seemed a little slower and not as energetic as in their prime but still gave a phenomenal show. The article gave the impression that the guitar solos, the singing, and the acoustics weren’t up to par and he really tore apart all of the minute details. When talking about how John Bonham’s son took over his dad’s guitar, the author said that there were many errors and changes but that you could overlook them and just enjoy the music that was coming out of that guitar. The magic that Led Zeppelin brings to the stage still excites fans and that electricity on stage gave those same fans a great show.
To tie this into our class topics I am going to create a scenario with Kevin as the main character. Kevin is a huge Led Zeppelin fan and he hasn’t seen them perform since their concerts back in the 1970’s. He buys a ticket for $100. About a week later his brother tells him that he just got tickets for the Boston Red Sox game and has one extra ticket for Kevin. Kevin has to decide which one to go to because they are on the same night. First he tries working with a cost-benefit analysis which is where he measures what it will cost him to go to the Led Zeppelin concert and what it will benefit him. He has to make sure and include any oppurtunity cost that it would involve, which would be the next best thing he could be doing. His cost would be missing the Red Sox game. His benefits would include seeing a band that he loves and watching the band perform for what could perhaps be one of their last. He also makes the argument that he shouldn’t go to the Red Sox game because he already paid $100 for his ticket to Led Zeppelin. His brother corrects him saying that the cost of his ticket is a sunk cost because not matter what his decision he will still pay that $100 and this shouldn’t be a determining factor in his decision. Kevin decides that he is going to go to the Led Zeppelin concert because to him the benefits out weigh the costs.
