Napoleon Bonaparte as everybody knows that he was able to bend the mind of the public basically to his will. In March of 1796 in Italy he did this to his men and it succeeds to the point where his armies were fearless. He told the armies of Italy that the government was in debt to them; that they produce no glory or fame upon themselves. He proclaimed that he would lead them to the "Most fertile plains in the world" and also said "Rich providences, great cities will be in your power." He convinced them to fight for him instead of the government so that they could have the honor, glory, and riches that deserved.

On April 26, 1796 Napoleon told his men that they had won many battles, gained many victories, acquired fifty five pieces of artillery, conquered the richest part of Piedmont, and defeated many men. He also said that they had won battles without cannons, crossed rivers without bridges, and made marches without shoes. Napoleon was telling his troops that they were unstoppable, invincible, and almost as like they were Gods, he made them sound as if they were what judgment day would send. Napoleon stated that the two armies that they had just faced were now fleeing in terror and how their enemies were confounded and trembling before them. As solider though they did nothing yet compared what Napoleon had in store for the future. Lastly he told the people of Italy that the French were not there to do harm but to break the chains that their tyrant kings had put on them.
