Evaluation Paper
Some people love soaking in the summer sun, some love to travel the world during this time or take a vacation, but for me this is the best time of the year. Not because of the weather as it is finally splendid in Chicago, but due to the National Basketball Association having its playoffs and championship season outlines during this time of year. That’s why I’m making my selection for this evaluation I have chosen nba.com as my choice. With the sites great detail and constant changes every day I am able to keep up with all my basketball needs. This detail is given to every fan across the world even if they may night be able to watch basketball on tv. This is the purpose that I feel this website fulfills from my evaluation.
When I navigate to the site the first thing I noticed about their design is that they decided to go with a certain shape to outline everything. This shape is squares and they use a plethora of these repetitively throughout the page. The website also takes a bit of the red, white, and blue theme which is the color of the NBA logo. One of my favorite graphics I noticed is the use of the background they use behind the main part of the website. Currently, there is a picture of 2015-2016 NBA most valuable player Steph Curry that jumps out at you and really gives the site a sleek feel. There is a ton of information around the page but it is not clustered, but better yet well organized. Everything on nba.com loaded and buffered for me quite quickly which is a huge factor for me because I am impatient. Overall the design gives a unique but not over the top feel that really appeals to all ages and that is just what basketball is.
Basketball has a lot to do with reading post game stories from the game. This can be top stories that come post game, or it can simply be a stat of any category for any player of your choice. This is one of the easiest and simplest things to do on the site. No passages on the site are too long or too boring. This is whether they’re writing an article on a player or article on the NBA helping the needy it is not going to consume to much of your time but it will grasp your attention. The sizing of the fonts and the font selection were also very sleek and complementing to the website. All text is used in a dark colored font that is overlapping a light colored background which looked hand in hand to me personally. In total the web makers did a great job in readability and appeal throughout the page.
The last part that I will cover is navigation and I have to say that this is definitely one of the strong parts of the site. As soon as you are directed to the page you run into a score board for the day of all the teams playing, where, when, and all the stats if you click on the square link that it is embedded in. Then there is also an option at the top right of the screen to sign up and personalize your experience. This way if you only want to see certain teams or info on the page the choice is yours making it simple. In between the sign up and the scoreboard is the heart of the webpage. From this key there are links to tickets, teams, schedules, TV, videos, players, the nba store, etc. This is where you can buy tickets to games, search up facts on your favorite players, or even buy your teams jerseys to stuffed mascot dolls. All these links have a very ease of use and really speak for themselves. Under the scoreboard you will right away see various videos of highlights and interviews that let you catch up on all you missed. The web makers couldn’t have made it any easier for you to go to the site and get to what you need as soon as you need.
