Part 4
Sandia's primary industries are Nuclear Weapons, Energy and Infrastructure, Nonproliferation, Military Technologies, and Homeland Security. Sandia operates under the SIC codes 8731-98, 5099-05, and 9121-01 and the NAICS codes 54171040, 42399019, 92112009. Much of their work is acquired through government contracts; however, two of their main competitors are Los Alamos National Laboratories and Argonne National Laboratories.
Sandia's gross profit last year as of 12/31/2004 was $725,226,000. This information can be viewed at www.Nasdaq.com using the stock symbol BOBJ.
They have facilities located in California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Texas and Washington D.C. The only facility that I am interested in is located in Albuquerque New Mexico. Sandia employs approximately 8,300 full time, regular employees.
Sandia's corporate values are teamwork, integrity, quality, leadership, and respect for the individual. Sandia's Mission statement reads as follows:
As a Department of Energy national laboratory, Sandia works in partnership with universities and industry to enhance the security, prosperity, and well-being of the nation. We provide scientific and engineering solutions to meet national needs in nuclear weapons and related defense systems, energy security, and environmental integrity-and to address emerging national challenges for both government and industry.
I have several reasons for choosing Sandia National Laboratories to work for. First, since they have many government contracts, they can provide a little more job stability. Second, many of the projects they are working on are using cutting edge technology. They are constantly pushing technology further along. Last, I was able to attend a meeting with a representative from Sandia. I was very intrigued by what he had to say about the company and how they treat their employees. His input was very valuable.
These are the reasons that I chose Sandia as one of my companies to research.
Part 5
Sandia's homepage shows a list of products the company has to offer. The majority of their products aren't produced for consumers, so they don't actually have a page showing the products they offer. Also, a fair portion of their work is done in research and development. That also makes it difficult to define actual products that the company produces.
You can see from the home page that they have a good variety of projects and products.
