An ongoing concern in today's
society is racisim. From my personal experience, We, the hispanics, are constantly being looked down upon. It is embarrasing!.
One of my favorite things to do while at home is play an online Playstation 2 game called Socom: Us navy seals. The objective of the game is quite simple: Eight Navy Seals versus eight terrorist. The seals have the try to take out the terrorist and the terrorist have to try to take out the seals at the same time. For the most part, I enjoy playing more as a navy seal as opposed to a terrorist. I Usually, at the end of a game, have a higher kill count than most of the players. I get compliments, I say thank you and they hear my accent. That's where it starts. "Wait, this guy is a 'spic!" "Don't you belong on the terrorist side!?" "Hey, I have five bucks for you to clean my house you 'spic!". Those are just some of the obscurities that are yelled at me. Why is it because I am dominican, I have to play on the terrorist side? Or why is it that I am being offered five dollars to clean someones house? I am a short tempered individual and by the grace of god, nothing remotely similar to that has happened
to me in real life. Only god knows what would happen to the poor, relentless individual that would dare disrespect me in such a manner.
It is embarrasing, as an AMERICAN BORN CITIZEN, that there are still individuals in our fine nation who look down upon other races. Just because my name is Pablo Enrique Hernandez, I can't play a relaxing game online without being disrespected. I bet if my name was Bob Wallingford, things would be a bit different!
