In life, people make a lot of different decisions, which have long reaching effects. In the play, “The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, the main characters Romeo and Juliet make different kinds of decisions along the way that led to conflicts and tragedy at the end. Throughout the play, they decide the hide their affair from their families, decide to run away from homes and they decide to commit suicide at the end of the play. The goal of their decisions is to be together as a couple at the very end.
The first decision that Romeo and Juliet have to make is to decide to hide their affair from their families. The reason why they need to hide it is because their families hate each other; they don’t get along. The two families won’t allow their family members to talk to the members of the other family; and therefore, Romeo and Juliet are not allowed to be seen together, not allowed to talk to each other, and even not allowed to be together as a couple. Even though Romeo and Juliet are deeply in love with each other, but due to the conflict between their own families, they are not allowed to be together. Therefore, they decide to hide it from their families and this is the first decision they make in the play.
The other decision Romeo and Juliet have to make in the play is to decide to run away from home. Because Romeo accidentally wounds Juliet’s cousin during a fight one day, his punishment is to get banish from the country forever. They couple gets very upset by the announcement because that means they cannot see each other anymore. Therefore, Romeo decides to run away so he could run away from the punishment and he will still have a chance to see Juliet. He chooses to run away from the punishment instead of taking the responsibility and this is the second decision he makes in the play.
The last and final decision that Romeo and Juliet make is to commit suicide. Juliet at the end of the play, she fakes being dead because it is part of the plan to trick her family so she could finally be together with Romeo. But due to misunderstandings, Romeo thought Juliet is really dead so therefore, he commits suicide because he feels like there is no reason for him to live if his lover is dead. When Juliet wakes up from the sleeping poison she has taken earlier, she sees Romeo lying dead right next to her, and she becomes heartbroken and upset. And therefore, she commits
