Romeo and Juliet Essay

Fate means an event that will inevitably happen in the future. Romeo and Juliet's relationship was not in the hands of the stars but in their own hands. One reason why Romeo and Juliet's relationship was not predestined was when Romeo decided to go to uninvited to the Capulet Ball. Another justification that illustrated Romeo and Juliet's independent action was when they decided to keep their marriage a secret. Finally, the third example of their action was when Romeo killed Tybalt. These actions show why Romeo and Juliet did in fact cause their own death.

One example that proves that Romeo and Juliet were not destined to be together was Romeo's decision to go to the Capulet ball as an uninvited guest. Romeo did not have to go but he was pressured into going, by Benvolio and Mercutio. Mercutio wanted Romeo to forget Rosaline and move on with his life. Romeo went to the ball and fell in love with Juliet. In the play Romeo says "Did my heart love till now? Forswear it sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night." This declaration indicated that he had not known love until he saw Juliet.

For Juliet's part, after the ball and during the balcony scene she said "O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name, or, if thou wilt not, be sworn my love and I'll no longer be a Capulet," Juliet after seeing Romeo at the ball, she fell deeply in love with him. She also stated that it was her own choice to give up everything for her love and no longer be a Capulet. From that point on, both Romeo and Juliet were everything to each other.

In order to prove their love for each other, they decided to get married despite their families' hatred. Friar Laurence knew that Romeo and Juliet were truly in love and was sworn to secrecy about their marriage. In order to keep Juliet's marriage to Romeo a secret, she pretended she would marry Count Paris. Since, Juliet did not want to actually marry Paris; she faked her death by taking a potion that put her in a deep sleep. When Romeo heard of this horrible event, he rushed over to see Juliet in her vault. When he got there, Romeo killed himself because he wanted to be with her forever. When Juliet woke up and found her husband's dead body, she stabbed herself with Romeo's dagger.
