Acetone
Acetone is a colourless liquid with a sweet odour. It is readily soluble in water, ethanol, ether and many other substances. The melting point is -95 C and boiling point is 56 C. It is highly flammable and explosive. Acetone is commonly found in nail polish. Since it is heavier than air, it travels on the ground. The vapour it gives out will irritate the eyes; damage the nervous system, liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract and increased birth defects. People with the use of alcohol will increase the harm. If skin is contacted in a long-term situation or repeatedly, it may result in dermatitis. Some symptoms include: dry skin, redness in eyes, blurry vision, nausea, vomit, sore throat, cough, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, or concussion. There are different ways to prevent damages, such as using gloves, safety glasses or breath apparatus. When exposed or come in contact with the chemical, rinse with lots of water and never pour into the sewer. Collect the liquid in a sealable container, use sand or inert absorbent to remove or absorb.
Varsol
Varsol is a clear, water-white liquid with mineral spirits odour. It is insoluble. The melting point is -18 C and boiling point is 157 C. Varsol is highly flammable and explosive. When exposed, it will irritate the eyes, skin, and has a low order of dermatitis. Symptoms include respiratory tract, headaches, dizziness, anaesthesia, drowsiness, unconsciousness. In may result in death. When ingested, it has a low order of acute oral toxicity. It is not chronic. To prevent or clean, use large amount of water. If it gets on clothing, use soap to rinse as well. When inhaled, move to fresh air, but when breathing stops, perform CPR. If spilled, add absorbent to spill. Keep the containers closed and keep away from heat, sparks, flames, strong oxidants, ignition sources, or incompatibles. When caught on fire, extinguish with water spray in fogs, foam, dry chemicals, or carbon dioxide. Water alone is not effective. It also travels on the ground. To prevent use protective gloves, safety goggles, or apron. Wash hands after using the chemical and before eating. In a nutshell, both are very harmful substance, so use them with caution.
