The Fall of Humanity

In the beginning, “The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground-trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.   In the middle of the garden were the trees of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2:9).   God said, “I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees.”  (Ecclesiastes 2:6).   “The Garden of Eden represents the garden as the place where God dwelled with his people and God created the world and humanity, so that it can be interrelated” (Booth, 2017).   Through these verses God was making the earth plentiful, so that man and women can flourish.

Genesis’ first two chapters reveal a great deal about human nature.  When God created humanity, they were considered to have been created “very good” (Genesis, 1:31) and in His image, which connects to the ability to feel, reason (etc.).  Additionally, the Lord gave humans dominion over all animals of the earth (Genesis 1:26).  This is one-way God showed humans are the pinnacle of His creation. In the first chapter, God stated, “humanity is to multiply and become fruitful.”  In Galatians 5:22-23, the fruits of the spirit are outlined, one of which is love, connecting to Genesis and man being created for community.  God gave Adam the task of caring for and working in the Garden of Eden, showing God’s desire for mankind to be caring and hardworking (Genesis 2:15).  Overall, humanity’s identity is covered with God’s fingerprints and influenced by his goodness.

The consequences of the fall of human nature included the loss of righteousness when Adam and Eve became aware of their nakedness and shame, for not obeying God.  In addition, the ground was cursed not only in the Garden of Eden, but throughout the world (Genesis 3:19).  “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground.  Since you were taken from the dust you are and dust you will return” (Genesis 3:19).  Death spread over mankind because all men sinned.  Adam disobeyed, and physical death came not only to him but all of his descendants (Romans 5:12).

Since God is and has always been, the Scripture is the living testament of God and how the Bible’s story reveals a recorded revelation of God.  (Peter 2. 1:21).  God’s omnipotent power over all makes him present and caring and a personal God. God made the heavens and the earth to be inhabited by man.  God said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth” (Genesis, 1:20).  The creation of Adam and Eve and God’s relationship with humanity is the description for God’s enduring love for humanity.  (Booth, 2017).
