The Lesson is the story about poore harlem children and their educator Miss Moore who teach them a lesson about their lives. The picture of children before the appearance of Miss Moore was innocent.They were happy in thir world.They through that everyone else old, stupid,young,or foolish while the children were perfect.Miss Moore taking kids to the expensive toy store to show them what they truly were and why education is so important. .The narrator of the story Sylvia girl whose life is within the poverty stricken area and she does not see why she must try hard.Through the story we see her transformation from the innocent "do not care" girl to the person who understand her real place in life.Her friend Sugar at the end of the story helps her to acquire this understanding.Turning point in this story is a toy store visit.With a help of Miss Moore Sylvia and her friends understand their poverty and inequality to the rest of the society.

The first thing they learned is that poverty is a way of life for those children. They know that they are pore ,it does not bother them because everyone around them are poore. They did not think about their poverty because it is no competition around.An example of this is seen when the children talk about their study areas at home.Only one of them actually have a desk and paper ,and the other think nothing of it.Instead the tell her to shut up about it.The children are proud of themselves and of their life.When Miss Moore finally leads kids to the toy store, they are immediately dazzled by the toys in the windows;even declaring which ones they were gonna buy.The children know they could not afford the toys , but they never could imagine how much can they cost.The onec brave ,strong and proud children were hobbled at the doore,none of which wanting to go first.Here is the point where they get slapped in the face .Here is where they first see that they do not belong here.The biggest impact toy store made on Sylvia,the narrator of the story.In the toy store she feels shame about her poverty and understands the lesson: "money aint divided up right in this country".Also, from the toy store she learned how different she is from the people who shop in this store.She compares the prices of the toys with the money her family gat,and became anger.She is trying to understand how can somebody can spnd that much for the toy and asking herself a question : "Why
