The purpose of this short paper is to argue that The Veryround Chair design by Louise Campbell is more of a decorative chair instead of a functional chair.  Although The Veryround Chair looks like a chair and sits like a chair, without the ergonomic design, it should be conceded as decorative but not functional.  The main assumptions are that everyone would want to sit in a chair that can provide necessary support to the back, legs, buttocks, and arms, while reducing exposure to awkward posture, contact stress, and forceful exertions.  The key facts or rationales I am using are the shape of the chair, the material of the chair, and the price of the chair.  I am inferring that the non-chair-like chair makes exposes people to awkward posture, the hard material makes sitting uncomfortable for people, and the high price makes unaffordable.  The key concepts I utilize to support what I am inferring are the manufacturer and the designer’s beliefs and culture, the expression of the new material, and the aim of a high-end clientele, which are the reasons why The Veryround Chair is designed to be more of a piece of decorative furniture rather than humanist versions of functional furniture.  Louise Campbell focused on the aesthetic form of the chair and intentionally eliminated the concept of function in her design process; in my point-of-view, she wanted to introduce the sheet metal to express that this material is light as paper but very strong.  My conclusions are the non-classic, icon-like chair, the hard material of the chair, and the uncomfortable sitting posture create an impractical chair, which is logically supported by the key elements of the arguments I am presenting.  Designers should not limit themselves only in designing something aesthetically; it should also incorporate function into their design.
