Why do People who do not have a medical condition let themselves get obese?
While doing this project I came to find this subject very interesting as I could relate it to my job. As a personal trainer I come across obese people on an every day basis. Through doing this project I came to find out why these people let themselves get to this physical state, I was then able to apply this to my every day life a figure out some ways to help my clients to overcome their problem. Through this project doing some research I came across many solutions to the psychological problems some of which include depression management, and self image promotion. This paper will discuss some of those solutions and the positive effects.
The problem of obesity is one that is taking over out nation and is one of the leading causes of death in America. Some of the reasons for this disease according to the magazine Psychology Today are lack of activity, poor diet, depression, eating disorders, and boredom. These problems alone as well as combined are what is leading to the problem in America today. Through my research I have also found that motivation plays a key role in the way that people participate in activity and their eating habits. This makes people feel that they too must focus on those aspects and less on themselves. Only recently has a focus been placed on the problem of obesity since in is an epidemic that is slowly killing off our country. This lack of motivation is where it hit me that this is a key factor to combat the problem and there are things that I can do as a personal trainer to help motivate my clients to stick to their exercise programs. As a person that these people look towards for encouragement I need to make sure that everything that comes out of my mouth is positive even if there is something negative that needs to be addressed. Their has to be a positive way to address these things so that the client feels that they are always progressing. Another aspect that became even clearer to me came after reading an article put out by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. This article talked about monitoring techniques. It described how you need to make the person accountable for their actions by recording date and time that they did some kind of physical activity. This would also work on a nutrition basis by making the person aware of exactly what and how much they
