Stamp Act Essay
I [William Penn Windom] believe that the stamp act was justified and that the colonists were not justified in paying to a certain degree because the tax cost is very low and has fewer risks however the colonists do not know what the tax is being spent on and we fled due to financial problems and freedom. Both sides of the debate brought up many good points however paying the taxes have more benefits and fewer risks. Benefits of paying the tax is that our colonies and Britain can continue to build up the relationship even more. Also, our colonies will not lose much by paying these taxes. According to Cummins, American Revolution page 29, John C. Miller calculated about one shilling per person in the colonies (a very low price for anyone to pay). Also, it could prevent major losses such as our brothers (other colonists) and even our rights, it may even go as far as a war (ridiculous, I know, but anything may happen). However a downside is that according to Cummins American Revolution page 66, we do not know what the British are spending our taxes on, it can be on unnecessary things (such as luxurious items). However I believe that the taxes are payable for everyone and that it is the safest route to the success of our colonies. If the British starts to raise tax to by an immense amount, then the colonists should start peacefully revolting. According to Cummins American Revolution page 66, this can be the first of very many taxes in the future. However, we fled from their country for freedom and to prevent financial problems, and now they care about us when they hardly did for years according to Colonel Isacc Barre. I believe, as a Neutralist, that we shall pay the tax until they raise or add on more taxes, then the colonies should peacefully revolt.
