One of my first memories of writing was while I was in grade school. We had to write to another school outside of our state. The goal was to create a pen pal. I chose to write to a school in Iowa where I found a student that had a lot in common with me. His name was Nick. I learned that he too showed cattle all over the United States but little did I know that I met his brother the year before at a show. After that we wrote back and forth a couple of times and even got to meet each other. Another outstanding memory of writing was in my senior year dual credit English class. I dreaded the class until I wrote my research paper. My topic was about women's body image and it was the best paper I have ever composed. I worked long and hard but I also found myself drawn into my research which benefited me also. My teacher loved it and received an A on my paper. If it wasn't for that teacher, Dr. Butler, I wouldn't be the writer I am today. She made us work hard for all of our assignments and always helped us if we had questions.
I am not a big fan of writing but I am defiantly growing in that area. Poetry isn't my strong area but I like to write research papers on topics that interest me like: animals, people, and some history. The most difficult aspect of writing is getting all my ideas out and choosing what to write about. One of my strengths is once I have an idea I just go, letting all my words flow on the paper. My audiences are normally people my age it helps me relate easier.
When I read a novel for a class I generally try to highlight main points in the book or write notes and comments in the margins. I don't really have a motto that helps me with just my writing but I have one that helps me with everything I do. I learned it threw 4-H it's: "to make the best better." I try to apply it to everything I do to help me improve.
