Case Description/Introduction:

Tanglewood is a chain of general Department stores featuring items such as appliances, apparel, and home décor. The company functions within the modest alcove, with the target market of upper and middle-income customers. Tangelewood has a divergent strategy based on an "outdoors" theme, with an emphasis centralized on outdoor living arrangements with colossal camping preparations within every location. Uniquely the store offers a stylish, straightforward, and organized design featured within their establishments as well as, their in-house products. Tanglewood was originally founded in 1975 by two entrepreneurs, Tanner Emerson and Thurston Woods. Originally the goal and intent was to provide exceptional merchandise with first-class customer service that won the heart of people which resulted in the business flourishing. Tanglewood grew in around the 90's, to include 243 stores in various locations throughout the United States, with Mr. Emerson being the CEO and Mr. Woods being the President. They employed Regional Managers that were hired to directly oversee the day to day operations of the business. The organizational structure within Tanglewood is inclusive to the practice of the culture of transparency throughout the organization. This element of transparency is evident as employees at every level are allowed to make pivotal suggestions, as they are an asset to the company. Tanglewood doesn't prefer the concept of temporary workers; elevated staff turnover rates, cheap labor, thus a first-class core of work force is deemed essential for optimal success. As an external consultant to make the superlative determination regarding staffing quantity and staffing quality strategies for Tanglewood, I will utilize Exhibit 1.7 within the text as a reference point. Essentially, I will explain the thirteen strategic staffing decisions, which consist of nine pertaining to staffing levels and four pertaining to staffing quality.

Identification of Business Strategy/Goals:

Tanglewood aims to meet the goals established within their company through optimal communication through employees which enhances their element of customer service. Their business goals and strategies are focused on providing the utmost value to their shareholders, as well as their customers. Tanglewood comprehends the necessity of keeping the customer satisfied through customer relations. They achieve this level of optimal success through the general upkeep of the store which contributes to the organizational strategies of the business. All of the products are kept to a high standard and quality as they are ready for purchase for consumers.

Tanglewood stores are exclusive in the product offering however they place a high emphasis on robustness of the selection through ensuring that each product is practical and sensibly priced. Additionally, Tanglewood offers an element of online marketing which allows the customer to retrieve ordered products at a location that's convenient to the consumer. This business strategy has boosted the element of satisfying the needs of the customer will reach the optimal goals of the business and production. The inexpensive shipping arrangements offers a sense of essential target marketing that will reach the target market as revenue will be generated based on this incentive. Tanglewood's business strategies and goals include thorough communication with its employees, having excellent customer wait time while keeping their shareholders content with the performance of the business. Tanglewood stores sell almost the comparable types of products tendered in other stores but they focus on quality, strength of their products and reasonable pricing.

Discussion of 13 Strategic Staffing Decisions:

Every corporation within the global market should employ an element of staffing strategy in effort to be successful. Tanglewood Retail store is one of the competitive and thriving industries in America which provides job to 23 million people and generates three million dollars in annual sales. After examining the Tanglewood case, to include exhibit 1.7 of the course text, I feel that the staffing levels and quality listed, developing talent, and exceptional workforce are the most vital strategies for the company to focus on due to the altering cultures which are relevant to the differing regions.
